Call for projects 2025 – Applications open!

Join the community of ODESS award winners and contribute to the digital transformation of healthcare in the low-middle-income countries!

The Global South e-Health Observatory (ODESS) is launching its 2025 call for projects to support initiatives using information and communication technologies to improve access to healthcare and quality medicines in African and Asian countries. Projects that have already been implemented in the field (at least at the pilot stage) are eligible.

After examining the eligible applications, the Observatory’s group of experts will select the most relevant projects, which will be awarded an Observatory award and provided with financial and technical support for one year. Since its creation, 45 award-winners have benefited from such support.

The prizes will be awarded at the Observatory’s 9th annual conference, to be held at the end of 2025 at the Pierre Fabre Foundation headquarters in Lavaur.

Eligibility criteria :

The projects must :

✔️ aim to improve access to quality healthcare and medicines for people in Africa and/or Asia
✔️ use information and communication technologies
✔️ be implemented in the field (at least at the pilot stage)

Are you a former ODESS award winner?

Award winners from 2016 to 2022 are also invited to apply to continue developing their project.

How to apply?

The deadline for applications is 18 December 2024.

Calendar for the 2025 call for projects :

  • 21 November to 18 December 2024: applications open.
  • 20 December 2024 : confirmation by email that your project has been registered.
  • From 22 January 2025 : eligible projects receive a second application form.
  • From 22 January to 15 February 2025: eligible projects complete and return the application form.
  • March – April 2025 : selected projects are contacted for field surveys.
  • April – May 2025: field surveys are carried out.
  • June 2025 : winners announced
  • October 2025 : Award ceremony during the ODESS conference at the Pierre Fabre Foundation headquarters in Lavaur, France.

Evaluation criteria :

The review and analysis of your project is based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance: Targeted and documented health issues, identified needs, implementation context, links with public health strategies, collaboration with other actors in the ecosystem, etc.
  • Approach: open approach, link with the structure of intervention areas, integration of end-users and stakeholders, consideration of cross-cutting issues and health determinants, etc.
  • Coherence: Roles of stakeholders, partnerships, governance framework and experience of the project leader
  • Innovation: Technological, social or methodological
  • Sustainability: Diversity of funding sources and business model
  • Compliance and risk management: compliance with national regulations, risk identification and mitigation.
