eConvivial
Promote access to sexual and reproductive health information and health care and services
Project start date : 16/01/2018
Last updated : 15/04/2024
Beneficiary country : Togo
What problem does the initiative address ?
According to the 2017-2022 PNDS (National Diagnosis and Treatment Protocol), the health problems affecting young people and adolescents are mainly sexual and reproductive health problems, including STIs and HIV. In this age group, there is an early pregnancy rate of 17%. Moreover, according to the EDST III (Demographic and Health Survey in Togo), 40% of pregnant women did not complete the 4 antenatal consultations and for 39% of pregnant women, they were not assisted by qualified health personnel during labour. All of these problems appear to be related to a lack of information and the persistence of risk behaviours among young people and adolescents. eConvivial therefore proposes to use ICTs to facilitate access to health information.
Detailed description of the initiative
Accessible on https://www.econvivial.org and in Google Play store, eConvivial offers services with:
Practical advice on health in audio format according to the user’s preferred language, firstly in French and in the two local languages;
Referral and appointment scheduling in a health facility thanks to a geolocation system;
Monitoring the menstrual cycle and ovulation period in girls and women using the robotcall;
Follow-up care for pregnant women and mothers for pre and post-natal consultations and vaccination follow-up care for the child through robotcalls;
Online assistance for health advice given by permanently available medical phone advisers.
What is the proposed solution added value ?
eCentre Convivial aims to provide the population with access to Sexual and Reproductive Health information and services. It is based on a web and mobile application to improve the daily well-being of young women of childbearing age, pregnant women and their infants. Throughout the entire Togo health system, there are many great applications but there is no application specifically designed to monitor the health of the population. This fundamental difference from existing solutions is recognised by partners such as the Ministry of Health, UNDP and the Global Fund as an innovative eHealth solution.

About the sponsor
AV-JEUNES/eCENTRE CONVIVIAL
AV-Jeunes, the Association of Volunteers for the Promotion of Young People, is a non-profit organisation born from the initiative of several young Togolese in 2004 who wish to take action for the youth of their country. It takes action in the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH), as well as promoting gender equity and women’s entrepreneurship. At the request of several partners, they are creating Youth Centres in several regions of Togo. Over the last 3 years, its main actions have focused on the provision of SRH services through HIV testing, consultations, STI treatment in schools and family planning through advanced strategies.
In 2017, the team decided to change its practices and take a digital turn in order to take advantage of the technological leap brought on by the Internet and the development of applications. Their goal was to improve the accessibility of its services and to reach out to the young people of their country as much as possible. It is finally developing the eCentre Convivial project inaugurated in January 2018.
