iSIGL
System for the transmission of logistic data to the Department in charge of managing the supply of health products (DCAPS) through Information and Communication Technologies in order to avoid stock-outs of pharmaceutical products in the health facilities
Project start date : 25/01/2019
Last updated : 16/03/2022
Beneficiary country : Burkina Faso
What problem does the initiative address ?
Data collection concerning stocks of pharmaceutical products in health facilities was manual. Therefore, pharmaceutical products were regularly found to be out of stock in health facilities.
Detailed description of the initiative
iSIGL is the way in which information is collected, analysed and communicated with the aim of allowing managers in the supply chain to make the necessary decisions to guarantee the availability of products and the service of their patients. The essential logistical data collected are:
The available and usable stock, which is the amount of stock available which can be effectively used;
The consumption which is the quantity of stock distributed to consumers over a specified period of time. This consumption is generally designed under the average monthly consumption format;
The losses which are quantities of stock removed from the distribution network for all other reasons that are not related to client consumption (expiration, theft, damage, etc.);
The adjustments concerning the quantities delivered to other entities or received from them on the same distribution network level.
The system set up was developed with the DHIS2 software with an internet connection and RESINA [country intranet network] at the district dispatching depots level and internet for health facilities equipped with tablets.
What is the proposed solution added value ?
Going paperless allows the Ministry of Health to have the correct data during sessions monitoring the quantity of products for priority programmes.
