What problem does the initiative address ?
Smart Health Ltd is connecting stakeholders involved along the journey of care to streamline processes so as to improve efficiency. Through our technology, health insurance companies leverage on our technology to deliver micro-insurance schemes to accelerate Universal Health Coverage (UHC) which is a key component of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3).
Detailed description of the initiative
Smart Health Ltd consists of a team of healthcare professionals and engineers designing user-driven applications to enhance the delivery of care. Through our technology there is improved efficiency which results in cost reduction. We have developed an ecosystem of applications that connect patients to all stakeholders involved along the journey of care. Doctors get a free EMR application and patients have access to their medical reports as well as appointment and pill reminders for free. Healthcare institutions has a low cost Hospital Information System (HIS) with integrated barcode scanning and Near Field Communication (NFC) card integration to improve efficiency and ensure value driven healthcare services. Every year according to the WHO, 100 million Africans are pushed to poverty due to out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare services. Through technology, we can accelerate UHC and enhance the quality of care delivery to more people. Our applications have been downloaded by more than 9000 users worldwide. Our first app, Doctor Assistant, which is a free EMR application on Google Play has been published on the first page of the WHO Compendium of Innovative Health Technologies for Low Resource Settings. Doctor Assistant, might be the first ever mobile health application coded entirely by medical doctors in the world. Being in clinical practice for past 4 years, the founders understand the socio-technical design of healthcare and bring their expertise into real life applications and services to improve access to care. Our technology is being piloted in healthcare institutions in collaboration with health insurance companies to bring down the cost of health insurance policies so as to accelerate Universal Health Coverage (SDG 3.8).
What is the proposed solution added value ?
We focus on mobile based applications and wireless connected electronic sensors to provide end-users with actionable insights to bring positive change. We use a secured cloud based solution to provide a lowcost Hospital Information System (HIS) to healthcare practices as well as hospitals. Health insurance companies get an integrated platform to manage their electronic claims as well as managing insurance policies. Smart Health is an ecosystem of applications that connect patients along the journey so as to ensure value-driven health services along the chain.
