What problem does the initiative address ?
The main problems solved by SOS System are problems locating accidents, adequate treatment of victims, and healthcare information for communities.
Detailed description of the initiative
SOS System is a system of applications made up of two interfaces: a mobile interface (SOS Mobile), and a supervisory interface (SOS Supervisor). SOS Mobile is a mobile app for all smartphone users in Africa. It’s an app that victims or witnesses of accidents (road accidents, fires, crises, and diseases) can use to alert the emergency services in a couple of clicks. Witnesses can send photos of the condition of victims and the location of the accident to the emergency services, and start an online chat with images to get advice on how to apply first aid to the victim while waiting for the emergency services to arrive. It also has other features like information on health, well-being, and safety (nutritional and diet advice, first aid tips, prevention of viral and non-viral diseases, etc.), as well as awareness campaigns, screening, and other campaigns related to health and safety (HIV/AIDS testing, blood donations, epidemic alerts, terrorism alerts, and may more). The SOS Supervisor interface is designed to locate and manage signals from users of the mobile platform on a map. It is for the exclusive use of the emergency services.
What is the proposed solution added value ?
Unlike the traditional emergency services management system, SOS System is able to locate accidents, with first aid advice given to witnesses in real time by the emergency services before they arrive at the accident, and enables the emergency services to retrieve the victims’ medical history. SOS System also provides users with portable, persistent information about anything related to health, safety, and well-being that they can share with their friends and family on their social network.
